INDIANA SECTION OF THE MATHEMATICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

CITATION TO

DavID RADER

The Indiana Section Distinguished Service Award was initiated in 1993 to honor a member of the Section by acknowledging their extraordinary contributions to the Section and outstanding efforts consistent with the stated purposes of the Mathematical Association of America and the Section, namely, assisting in promoting the interests of, and improving education in, the mathematical sciences in America, especially at the collegiate level.

This year’s Distinguished Service Award goes to Dr. David Rader at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He has contributed substantially to the mathematical community as well as his department and institution over the last twenty-four years. Relevant to the Indiana section in particular, he has served as Public Information Officer of the INMAA from 2000 to 2008 and was a Project NExT Indiana Mentor in 2001-02. Further, he was a committee member and later Vice President and President of the INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) Education committee.

Dr. Rader has also made significant contributions to Rose-Hulman’s mathematics department, including mentoring young faculty, numerous outreach efforts, serving as department chair since 2014 as well as serving as the Assistant Editor and then Editor of the Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics journal since its original publication in 2000. In addition, Dr. Rader applied his mathematical skills in 2013 to redesign the algorithm used to schedule final exams, and this system is still utilized today.

Congratulations to Dr. David Rader, this year’s Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America Distinguished Service Award winner.
